Summary:
Graceling meets The Selection in debut novelist Victoria Aveyard's sweeping tale of seventeen-year-old Mare, a common girl whose once-latent magical power draws her into the dangerous intrigue of the king's palace. Will her power save her or condemn her?
Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood--those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.
To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard--a growing Red rebellion--even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

10 Random Things About Victoria Aveyard
Fair warning, I was a pretty weird kid and I’m currently a weird pseudo-adult. I’ve got a treasure trove of random facts about myself.
Some highlights:
- I cheated my way to a C+ in Honors Pre-Calculus. We had class in a computer lab and I hid all my notes in the computer in front of me. Literally in the computer. And still couldn’t pull off a good grade. That’s how bad at math I am.
- I broke both my arms in a scooter accident when I was 10. I was stealing Pokemon cards but I didn’t know I was stealing, I swear.
- I’m a big fan of Richard III and I will FIGHT anyone who says he murdered his nephews.
- My dad and I drove from Los Angeles to Massachusetts in three days and didn’t murder each other.
- I believe in vortexes. There’s no other explanation for the amount of pens and hair clips I lose.
- In 7th grade, I read Lord of the Rings more than ten times. Like over and over again.
- I am a Slytherin. Pottermore put me in Gryffindor but I reject this outright.
- I have a BFA in Screenwriting and somehow have a job.
- I think Stannis deserves the Iron Throne.
- I’m a grandma stuck in a 24 year-old’s body. I love shawls, cruises, fine blankets, and Pottery Barn.
About the Author:
After growing up in small town Massachusetts, Victoria attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She graduated with a BFA in Screenwriting, which is exactly the degree being sought after in a recession.
She tries her best to combine her love of history, explosions, and butt-kicking heroines in her writing. Her hobbies include the impossible task of predicting what happens next in A Song of Ice and Fire, road trips, and burning through Netflix.

I have followed Victoria and Red Queen since I heard about it months ago. I'm super psyched to read it! I can't wait to hear more on the movie and just can't stop raving about Red Queen. Victoria ROCKS and love these questions! I think vortexes exists too because my socks go missing. And I love cruises!
ReplyDeleteFun guest post! I am looking forward to reading this.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, Jessica! I've been looking forward to it since you told be Victoria Aveyard was stopping by today! And I am so looking forward to RED QUEEN!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely on the top of my TBR for 2015. I love fantasy novels, especially those that have a more dark side. So excited for this!
ReplyDeleteBeen wanting to read this since I saw it featured during an episode of Tea Time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny post. I guess stealing Pokemon cards ended badly. I love warm blankets as well. I can't wait to read this one, I have an ARC calling me name. Thanks for being a part of Wicked, ladies.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post! Thank you SO much for this giveaway. Red Queen is the top book on my "I NEED THIS BOOK ASAP" pile! It sounds absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to read this book!! It sounds amazing, and I've heard nothing but great things about it :) Coverly love too <3 Author love too, Victoria is so funny and awesome! Thanks for the giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteI must be an old lady too, because I also like cruises, fine blankets and Pottery Barn.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am VERY EXCITED to read the RED QUEEN.
I believe in vortexes also. I lose more pens and hair bands then you can imagine so it must be vortexes. I can't wait for the Red Queen. It is one of my most looked forward to books of next year :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited that this is one of the giveaways! I've seen the book all over the place and was wondering when it'd pop up in a blog hop :D Love her quirky facts list. I totally empathize with feeling like an old person trapped in a younger body. I could sit around watching gameshows all day. Particularly the older episodes. Match Game and Family Feud <3 While I've never cheated on anything, I did steal something when I was little. Maybe 5. My mom took me shopping to pick out birthday party supplies, and I saw these invite cards with Barbie on them. Picked on up to show her, and I forgot I had it. Next thing you know, we're in the car and I see the thing. Whoops. I also colored on the walls, but I had more of a reason than you'd think. We had this ugly, felt-ish paper in my bedroom with all sorts of swirls to it. The fuzzy bits were blue and the rest white. I needed to color in between the lines. It's a habit that I still have - if I'm bored and have paper in front of me with text, I color in all the enclosed areas, like o's and p's.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds so good! I think that sorting hat is off, it put me in slytherin and I'm clearly a ravenclaw. Stannis? No way! lol @ granny. Nice post! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the cover for Red Queen! I'm so excited that this is one of the giveaways--it feels like I've been waiting forever already. :)
ReplyDeleteWow this cover is awesome, and the book description sounds equally fabulous. Cannot wait to get my hands on this.
ReplyDeleteIm really excited for this book but its been getting some pretty wicked reviews (that means bad). that wont stop me from reading it :-)
ReplyDeleteThis cover looks amazing and the book itself sounds so good. The concept seems very mature and intelligent and I am looking forward to reading it in February. *Sighs* Only four months to go...
ReplyDeleteI've been so excited to read that book! I read an excerpt on MTV.com a while ago and can't get it out of my head!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so, so much for the giveaway! :D I have heard such good things about this book and I cannot wait until I'm able to read it! The synopsis is so....and the cover is just...*sighs* Amazing <3

ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to reading this book. I loved Graceling by Kristin Cashore and can't wait to read this! There is something so compelling about a normal person rising above the life fate handed them. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great posting
ReplyDeleteI started following Victoria on twitter when I saw her agent tweet about this great new client she signed... and I'm so glad I did! The idea of Red Queen hooked me immediately, can't believe we'll all get to read it soon. And I have to say, daily interactions on twitter about Game of Thrones, Seinfeldisms and a million random things are my fav :) Thanks for the giveaway!!
ReplyDelete1) I'm glad I wasn't the only one horrible at math! Senior year I took regular Pre-Calc and had to take tutoring and still cheat my way to a C. It was horrible.
9) Stannis does deserve the Iron Throne, too bad he's not better at PR.
I liked Graceling and loved The Selection so that combo caught my interest. I can forgive the fact that Ms. Aveyard is a Slytherin but I am deeply distressed that she left Gryffindor to be a Slytherin. If her personality comes through the story like it did in her 10 Random Things, this book is definitely going to be one I will enjoy every page.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited about this book!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for this book. And I understand her math problem, I suck at it too.
ReplyDeleteOh my cheeseballs I had resigned myself to a long wait until this book came out but here's my chance to get an arc copy of it. Thanks so much!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! This sounds like a really great read! Especially when I absolutely love The Selection and Graceling. I can't wait for this book to come out. :)
ReplyDeleteThis book seems absolutely amazing! The cover *swoons* <3
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the awesome giveaway! :D
This book seems amazing. I'm trying so hard to get my hands on it! Thank you for offering the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI totally love this and the book sounds so interesting. I can't wait to read it. The 10 facts about Victoria were hilarious.

Fun guest post! I can't wait for this book!
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS BOOK! Red Queen has been on my tbr since September. My friend and I are anticipating this book with me and we are planning to buy this book together. The cover is just gorgeous and I plan to put it next to my royal books like The One and The Jewel to match up. Plus, the synopsis just caught my eye, I have never read anything about different blood types that distinguish people within the society. Thank you for the giveaway and thank you Ms. Aveyard for writing a book I am anticipating very much!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot of good reviews about this book! I LOVE the cover! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE COVER OF THIS BOOK
ReplyDeleteOOH yay! I've been wanting to read this for way too long! Actually, I stood outside the Epic Reads table waiting for them to open the box and give me a sampler.
ReplyDelete1- Math for me = a BIG FAT FAIL! I wish we had computers back then in school because MAN, what a brilliant idea!
ReplyDelete2- I break things yearly... No stories as good as yours, though. Except for that one time....
4- My mom, dad and I drove from Mass to SC in a Penske truck. Together. We almost DID kill each other. And not with kindness!
10- Blankets. ARE. the BEST. Invention. EVER!
I cannot wait to read Red Queen. It sounds absolutely perfect in every way for me. And I plan to somehow blow up a picture of the cover and frame it. If blowing it up can't happen, I will frame the whole darn book in a case that I can open so I can reread again and again. (See! Serious faith that I will love this book. Already planning the rereads!)
Thank you so much for this amazing giveaway! I honestly cannot wait!
Great guest post! I can definitely relate to number one. I'm okay at math, but if I could use my notes in AP Bio class right now I'm pretty sure my grade wouldn't even improve. The struggle is real for me in that class!
ReplyDeleteI love posts that allow us to learn random, interesting things about an author. It makes them seem like real people rather than mythical beings! Red Queen is on my must-read list as it has a couple of elements I absolutely love (thief protagonist, magic) and the plot sounds very interesting. Thanks for posting about it and offering this giveaway!
